being a dad

I've been a dad for a couple of months now and it's amazing, better than anything else I can think of.  My son has an amazing smile and great eyes.  He mainly seems to poo, puke, eat and sleep but he giggles a bit too.

I'm looking forward to doing lots of father son things and making him watch star wars, read marvel comics and listen to punk rock.  He may or may not like these things, it will be up to him.

I wish my dad had met him and that his mothers dad had met him.  Sadly, life isn't always what you want.  He does have an uncle which is good too.

Fatherhood and pregnancy have kept me busy over the past few months so only getting a chance to update the blog now.  Will post more stuff when I get a chance.

first Christmas in new house

It's the run up to Christmas in our house.  We finally have curtains in the dining room.  The house is warm.  We have neighbours and we have exchanged Christmas cards with them.  We are planning Christmas dinner.  We are adults. The world is a funny place.

We had a bit of snow last week, not much, just a bit.  It was raining today, heavily.  It's nice seeing the house in the different seasons, seeing how things change.  The summer heat was intense, hopefully it will be cooler next year.  We have a warm house which is comfortable but anywhere can be uncomfortable if it gets too warm,

We need to decide where to put all the Christmas cards and maybe set up a CD player in the dining room so we can listen to some tunes.  We were using my record player a couple of weeks ago, listening to Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Tracey Chapman and Nenah Cherry.  We have lots of decent restaurants around us and some great parks.

Earlier today I watched Bad Santa 2 to help me get into the seasonal spirit.  It's not as good as the first film although I might just be a bit older.  There was a decent Christmas episode of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix last week too.

The world is a wonderful place in many ways and my life is really good.

One friend on Facebook has been having a bad time recently.  I'll try and get to the cinema with him in the next few weeks, see how he's doing, grab a coffee.  Make some time.

It's important to always make time to live.  Life is short and precious.  We all work too hard and stress too much.  It's important to do good stuff for yourself.  A lot of people have difficult lives.  Remember them and help if you can.  Be kind.

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas everyone!

It's a great time for family and friends.  It can also be a sad time.  Some people are homeless, some people are sick, some people are working and some people aren't here anymore.  This is our first christmas without my dad.  He was really sick last christmas and we miss him now.  I'm lucky I had him for 39 years and many people are not as lucky as me.

We're having a family Christmas today and I'm looking forward to the meal this afternoon.  Life goes on and we are very lucky.

Hope everyone has a nice day today

Christmas time

Christmas time.

At work. Pretending to like people you vaguely know. Getting drunk and making an arse of yourself. Talking about work because that's all you have in common.

That's the horror of the work night out.

Mine wasn't too bad this year actually. I didn't have anything to drink. I say things I shouldn't even when I'm sober (H, one of my closest friends, reads this and thinks I'm autistic. I think I have frontal lobe damage). I still enjoyed the night with alcohol and it's always fun watching other people making arses of themselves.

There are a few people in my department who seem pretty cool. Work related chat was kept to a minimum although there was an embarrassing discussion about the sexualtiy of a senior depatmental member who is 'a bit camp'. Who really cares? Anyway I made my excuses and left before the workplace incest kicked off bigstyle.

Earlier on, one of my bosses had compared my junior colleague to 'Jessica Rabbit' (from Who framed Roger Rabbit?). I now know that it is possible to laugh and cringe at the same time. I try to look at everyone I work with as androgenous drones. It makes life better for everyone.

Anyway, we just put up a fucking massive tree in the flat. I've bought most of my presents from the internet and I've even written a few cards. I'm almost a grown-up.

I have to work late on x-mas eve but I have a lot of time off over the holiday season. More time to study.

Anyhow, enough yuletide joy

Exit, Stage left (like a cartoon cat - Snagletooth????)
