The Tate Gallery, Liverpool

The Tate Gallery in Liverpool is one of the best art galleries that I have been to. I visited it on Friday while in Liverpool for a work related course. I had no specific plans to visit the Tate but it caught my eye and bad weather motivated me to go inside. I'm glad it was raining.

The best exhibition was a retrospective of the work of English pop art painter Patrick Caulfield. I was unfamiliar with his work. I was drawn to the simple powerful lines of his painings and the bold primary colours of the pictures. His paintings made me feel good inside. The wave of ecstacy was enough to make me spend £25 on a retrospective of his work in the gift shop.

There was also a display of paintings by Lowry, an artist whose work I am more familiar with. His street scenes and match-stick figures are world famous and it is always nice to see a few up-close.

The modern art gallery included work by Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Tracey Emin, Roy Lichtenstein, Degas, Rodin, Grayson Perry and many others. There was also a Henry Moore exhibition but I don't like his stuff so much.

I had a good time wandering around and I would go back. I spent too much money in the shop, buying the afore mentioned Patrick Caulfield book as well as a collection of Windsor McKays 'Little Nemo in Slumberland' strips.

I couldn't be bothered to pay £5 to see the Jake and Dinos Chapman exhibition. I might come to regret that in old age.

ticket touts are bastards

I really hate ticket touts. I tried hard to get tickets for the upcoming Arcade Fire gigs in Glasgow with no luck. I look on ebay 5 hours later and tickets are on-sale for between 50 and 100 quid. Bastards!!!!!

Welcome to 2007!

A new year! Time to make resolutions about how to improve myself and stuff like that. I'll be 30 this year which is scary. I have one more big exam and I'll have to apply for my next job which could take me almost anywhere (although it would be cool to stay in Glasgow).

I guess I should spend the year trying to be a better person and stuff like that. That sounds noble. I should also try and have more fun.

Anyway, best wishes to everyone!!

Happy new year!
